Piedmont Triad could see stray showers, storms Thursday evening

(WGHP) — Mostly sunny skies become partly cloudy this evening with temperatures in the upper 80s after 7 p.m. Stray showers and storms can’t be entirely ruled out this afternoon and evening. Although, they’ll likely be few and far between. If any storms are able to form, there’s also a low chance that one or two may be severe. The chance for rain is 20%.

Temperatures start off Friday in the low 70s with afternoon highs reaching the upper 80s. Partly cloudy skies with isolated showers and storms possible, especially in the afternoon. The chance for storms is 40%. A few of the storms that form Friday afternoon will also have the potential to be severe with damaging wind as the primary concern.

Kicking off Labor Day weekend, temperatures will be in the low 70s both Saturday and Sunday morning with highs reaching the upper 80s. Partly cloudy skies become mostly cloudy skies by Sunday. While stray to isolated showers/storms will be possible on Saturday, there’s a chance for scattered showers/storms on Sunday.

Over the holiday weekend, the better days will be Saturday and Monday which both have a 30% chance for rain/storms but, rain chances are highest on Sunday with a 50% chance for scattered showers and storms.

An approaching front is the reason behind the weekend rain chances and it’ll finally begin to move through the Triad by Monday. This means temperatures will also drop into next week. Monday will start off in the upper 60s with highs in the low to mid-80s.

The cooler and drier air arrives by Tuesday with morning temperatures in the mid-60s and highs in the upper 70s.

We’ll remain cooler and drier for a few days next week with morning temperatures Wednesday and Thursday in the upper 50s and low 60s and highs in the mid-70s. Skies will be partly cloudy with a low chance for a stray shower.
