Piedmont Triad could see isolated thunderstorm to end workweek

(WGHP) — Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies this evening with temperatures in the 70s by 8 p.m.. A stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out, but the majority of us continue to remain dry, with the better potential in eastern NC.

We’ll start Friday with temperatures in the upper 60s, and afternoon highs will reach the upper 80s as an upper-level high pressure continues to build into the region. Skies will be mostly cloudy to end the work week, and an isolated shower or storm can’t be ruled out in the afternoon and evening.

We’re watching a low chance for severe weather on Saturday morning as lingering moisture and storms move in from the west ahead of an approaching surface cold front. Most of the storm activity looks to be between 3 AM and 8 AM on Saturday before the clouds clear out leaving us with more sunshine by Saturday afternoon. While the better chance for rain or strong storms looks to be in the early morning hours on Saturday, we’ll still need to watch out for a stray pop-up shower or storm in the afternoon although most will remain dry. Temperatures on Saturday will start in the low 70s and afternoon highs will reach the mid 80s.

Once the surface cold front is through, the air will be drier and more comfortable into Sunday. Temperatures will still remain warm thanks to the upper-level high pressure system remaining in place. We’ll start Sunday in the low to mid 60s with afternoon highs in the low to mid 80s. Skies will be partly cloudy. The All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway will be dry and temperatures will be in the mid 70s at the start of the race.

A mix of sun and clouds Monday and Tuesday with morning lows in the low 60s and afternoon highs in the low 80s. A stray shower or storm can’t be ruled out but most will remain dry to start the week.

Data has consistently shown rain chances on Wednesday with a low-pressure system and cold front moving through the Carolinas. Temperatures will be in the low 60s Wednesday morning with highs in the upper 70s. The chance for rain/storms is 40%.

Behind Wednesday’s system, temperatures will be in the low 60s Thursday morning with highs in the mid 70s. Skies will be partly cloudy and a lingering shower can’t be ruled out.
