CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A police officer and a suspect were hurt in a shooting after a traffic stop in south Charlotte.
The shooting happened near the intersection of Arrowood Road and Nations Ford Road on Sunday around 7:30 p.m., according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Police attempted a traffic stop on a person believed to be involved in an assault with a deadly weapon investigation.
The suspect was seen with a gun when officers approached, police said, causing gunfire to be exchanged between officers and the suspect. Police did not say who fired the first gunshot, but the police report said its officers “were fired upon.”
One officer was hit along with the suspect. Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. A second officer was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is continuing to investigate this incident.
