CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new poll from Statista shows three of the four top New Year’s Resolution for 2025 center around health.
“I think that a lot of times going into the new year we do need a reset,” said Callie Ford, a registered dietitian with Novant Health.
She said there are three things to keep in mind before making that grocery list or heading over to the gym.
“Because you’re likely to stick with it. I’m personally a visual person and typically my patients are as well,” she said, “so, I say ‘let’s purchase a whiteboard’. I know that sounds silly but it’s effective. Let’s purchase a meal planner or a journal.”
Next, Ford says it’s a good idea to keep it simple.
“When someone asks me ‘What should my plate look like’, I always like to go into detail, starting with your protein. Your protein is always going to be the most satisfying,” she said.
Ford said you should then add vegetables and carbohydrates, specifically whole grains. Finally, she advised setting realistic goals.
“Don’t go into the new year trying to aim for five days a week that you’re exercising if you have not stepped foot in a gym in six months,” Ford said.
She said you start small by going two to three times a week and then slowly increasing the number of days.
Ford also said you don’t have to completely cut out your favorites. She mentioned that the key is moderation.
“I had a trainer tell me that you can’t out-train a bad diet,” she said.
