NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Two individuals were arrested on opium trafficking charges after a New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputy carried out a traffic stop on a suspicious driver.
The officer stopped the vehicle around Market St. and Gordon St. after it impeded the flow of traffic with slow, unstable movements on July 31. The deputy called a Sheriff’s Office K-9 Deputy to search the vehicle. After finding evidence of drugs, officers conducted a physical search and found over two pounds of illegal fentanyl.
The vehicle’s driver Marvin Isaac Deleon and passenger Alywi Lopez-Godinez were charged with three counts of trafficking opium and are currently in New Hanover County Detention Facility under $1,000,000 secured bonds.
