NEW HANOVER COUNTY — In the month-and-a-half since firing the district’s superintendent, New Hanover County Schools board will announce who’s stepping in to fulfill the leadership in the short-term.

A special meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, 12:30 p.m., at Board of Education building, 1805 S. 13th Street. The board will announce its interim superintendent, with at least one member calling in remotely.
The district currently has Chris Barnes serving as acting superintendent, a vote taken simultaneously when the board fired Foust. The school board has worked with the North Carolina School Boards Association to find someone who can lead the district while a nationwide search is underway for the next superintendent.
The board settled its contract with Foust earlier this month, agreeing to pay him $256,927.23, — the total annual aggregate salary he was set to earn beginning the new fiscal year, July 1.
