WILMINGTON – Leslie Smith has been selected as the new headmaster at the Wilmington branch of the Classical Charter Schools of America (CCSA).

Smith has held multiple roles within the CCSA system, including Operations Coordinator in both Wilmington and Whiteville. She served as a teacher and lead teacher at CCS-Whiteville, earning Teacher of the Year for the 2023-2024 school year.

“Mrs. Smith is a dedicated, gifted, and extremely skilled administrator. She is devoted to the students and focuses all of her attention on making sure they succeed,” Lead Headmaster Steve Smith stated in a press release. “Her unique blend of talents and warm personality will ensure the CCS-Wilmington community continues to thrive.”

Mrs. Smith plans to build a strong and supportive environment for the staff and students at CCSA.

“As a teacher and mentor to new educators, I’ve always believed that our work is about so much more than academics —  it’s about building character, developing leadership, and helping students realize their full potential as individuals,” Mrs. Smith stated in the release.

Since 1999, CCSA has grown from their original location in Leland and added three more schools across the eastern side of the state. CCS-Wilmington currently educates more than a hundred students grades K through fifth.
