NORTH CAROLINA — The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has announced that over $50,000 will be given to 21 students pursuing careers in transportation.

As a part of the NCDOT Office of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSI) Transportation Scholarship program, $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to students across the state. One student was also awarded a $700 scholarship from Southern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials.

Qualifying students are enrolled at one of the 11 HBCUs or three MSIs in North Carolina and have completed a minimum of 24 credit hours while maintaining a GPA of 2.5 or above. Scholarship recipients were selected by a committee of NCDOT and HBCU/MSI partners based on personal essays, financial need and academic performance.

“It’s an honor to invest in the future of these talented students,” Christy Dunston, director of NCDOT’s Office of HBCU Outreach, stated in a press release. “By awarding these scholarships, we’re not just supporting their education, but empowering the next generation of leaders who will drive innovation in the transportation industry.”Transportation students interested in applying for the 2025-2026 scholarship program can apply this fall through the NCDOT HBCU/MSI Transportation Scholarship website.
