NC Gov. Stein urges FEMA to extend housing help for Helene victims

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein is putting pressure on FEMA to extend housing assistance for Hurricane Helene victims.

The Transitional Sheltering Assistance program secures temporary housing for people displaced by the storm. Under the program, FEMA paid for hotel and motel rooms for thousands of people displaced by Hurricane Helene.

Right now, it’s set to end in March.

But, the governor is asking FEMA to extend it another six months. That would make the extension last through Sept. 30.

The deadline has already been extended twice to help Helene victims get through North Carolina’s harsh winter weather.
