National Weather Service issues severe thunderstorm watch in 31 North Carolina counties

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A severe thunderstorm is possible in the Piedmont Triad tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, the NWS issued a severe thunderstorm watch for 31 counties in central North Carolina until 10 p.m.

Severe is defined as a “significant threat to life or property.”

Affected counties include the following:

  • Anson
  • Chatham
  • Cumberland
  • Davidson
  • Durham
  • Edgecombe
  • Forsyth
  • Franklin
  • Granville
  • Guilford
  • Halifax
  • Harnett
  • Hoke
  • Johnston
  • Lee
  • Montgomery
  • Moore
  • Nash
  • Orange
  • Person
  • Randolph
  • Richmond
  • Sampson
  • Scotland
  • Stanly
  • Vance
  • Wake
  • Warren
  • Wayne
  • Wilson
