Mental health resources county-by-county

State and city leaders are seeking solutions to the mental health crisis.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The United States, especially its youth, is in a mental health crisis, according to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control.

One in five American adults experienced symptoms of anxiety and depression.   Four in 10 students had persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, two in 10 students seriously considered attempting suicide, and nearly one in 10 attempted suicide, according to the CDC.

This year’s Mental Health Month theme, “Turn Awareness into Action,” celebrates the progress that has been made while challenging us all to turn that understanding into meaningful steps toward change. WCNC Charlotte is seeking solutions. On Tuesday, May 13, WCNC Charlotte is hosting a phone bank where people can get mental health resources from local organizations. The phone bank will take calls that day from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Just call 704-329-3600 during those time periods. If those hours don’t work for you, WCNC Charlotte wanted to still provide resources.

If you or a loved one are facing thoughts of suicide or self-harm, there is help readily available. You can call Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 or chat with them online. There are also resources in North Carolina available here and in South Carolina available here.

A warmline is a peer-run phone line that offers callers emotional support and is staffed by volunteers who are in recovery themselves. NAMI has a warm line directory for North Carolina and across the country.
