Man killed, child seriously hurt in Salisbury shooting

No suspects have been arrested at this time, but police say the shooting wasn’t random.

SALISBURY, N.C. — A child arrived at the hospital with gunshot wounds after police found a man dead from the same shooting in Salisbury, Saturday morning. 

Around 5:30 a.m., police responded to a “shots fired” call at 128 Rowan Mill Road. There, they found a man who had been shot. 

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Salisbury Police Department. 

Around the same time, a child showed up at Novant Hospital with gunshot wounds from the same shooting. The child was transferred to another hospital and remains in stable condition, though the injuries are life-threatening.

 No suspects have been arrested as of Saturday around noon. 

“However, based on the evidence and information gathered during the ongoing investigation, we want to reassure the community that this was not a random incident,” a spokesperson for the police department said, adding, “There has been no direct threat identified to the broader community although we urge community members to remain vigilant.”
