Dreshon Jibri Moreno, 21, remains in jail under no bond.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — WCNC Charlotte has chosen to use this mugshot because of the nature of the alleged crimes.
Less than a week after a woman died in a late-night crash on Christmas, court records indicate an arrest has been made in the ensuing homicide investigation.
WCNC Charlotte reviewed court records on Tuesday, Jan. 1, which indicated that 21-year-old Dreshon Jibri Moreno of Charlotte had been charged with the murder of Kennedi Aniyah Flora Jones. Moreno is in jail with no bond and an initial court appearance scheduled for Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. Moreno is also charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon; affidavits allege he stole Jones’ cell phone and threatened her with a gun.
Moreno appeared in court for the first time on Thursday, January 2. He was appointed a public defender and remains in jail under no bond. His next court appearance is set for January 22, 2025.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said the crash happened on Shamrock Drive, not far from Hickory Grove Road and North Sharon Amity Road. When officers arrived around 11:20 p.m. on Dec. 25, they found a vehicle down an embankment near the road. Officers found the driver, identified as Jones, inside the vehicle with life-threatening injuries.Â
She was taken to a local hospital where hospital staff confirmed she died due to her injuries.Â
Representatives from CMPD’s Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, Crime Scene Search, Operations Command, the Charlotte Fire Department, and Medic all responded to the scene. Homicide Unit detectives were later called to investigate.Â
