CATAWBA COUNTY, N.C. — A Catawba County man is accused of assaulting a woman and another man at his home on Christmas.

The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office said it was called to a home on Mountain Grove Road near the Mountain View community around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Deputies arrived and found the two victims with critical injuries. The victims were flown to a hospital for treatment and remain in critical condition as of publication.

Deputies arrested 32-year-old Brent Allen Dingess, who lives at the home where the reported assault happened. He’s now charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder. Dingess is being held in jail under no bond and has an initial court appearance scheduled for Friday, Dec. 27.

The sheriff’s office notes additional charges are pending.

Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
