Man accused of stealing van from a church and violating sex offender order

Joshua Moore, 37, is a registered sex offender. He was charged with failing to provide authorities with his new address and living within 1,000 feet of a school.

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A man accused of stealing a van from a local church was arrested in Iredell County.

Joshua Andrew Moore, 37, was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies at a home on Coddle Creek Highway. Moore is accused of stealing a van from a local church and a truck from Mecklenburg County. Deputies also found fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine at his house. Moore admitted the drugs belonged to him, authorities said.

The van was later found spray-painted black and hidden in woods near Timber Road.

Moore faces multiple felony charges, including failure to report a new address as a sex offender, living within 1,000 feet of a school as a sex offender, drug possession, and possession of stolen vehicles. He is being held without bond.

Moore’s criminal history includes attempted statutory rape of a person under 6 years old, multiple breaking and entering charges, and various drug and weapons offenses. He is also listed as a habitual felon.

The arrest was a joint effort between the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Squad and Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team.
