Javier Hampton Trevino Jr., 20, now faces a pair of charges.
HICKORY, N.C. — A Lenoir man is facing charges after a shooting incident resulted in a passerby being hit by gunfire early on New Year’s Day.
The Hickory Police Department said shots rang out around 2 a.m. Wednesday along 2nd Street Northwest near Main Avenue Northwest. The victim, who is from Yadkinville, was found nearby with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital before being transported to Winston-Salem. As of publication, police say he is in stable condition.
Officers said it initially appeared the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Javier Hampton Trevino Jr., was involved in some kind of incident with other people nearby when he fired his gun. The gunfire hit the victim, who was not involved in the incident. Trevino left the scene before officers arrived, but was taken into custody Thursday.
Trevino is now charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He is in jail being held under no bond.
Hickory police said the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office and the Lenoir Police Department aided in the investigation and with taking Trevino into custody.
While Trevino has been arrested, the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with more information can provide it by contacting Inv. Tammie Johnson via email or by calling Hickory Police at (828) 328-5551.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots. Â
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.Â
