CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — Mount Pleasant Elementary School in Cabarrus County was put on lockdown after a man ran from police and crashed in Mount Pleasant on Friday, officials said.

The Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office said a person failed to stop for a traffic stop, leading to a crash. Multiple vehicles were involved in the crash. The suspect, who hasn’t been identified, ran into the woods. Multiple K-9 units were sent to the area to search for the suspect, as were several deputies. North Carolina State Highway Patrol was leading the crash investigation.

A spokesperson for Cabarrus County Schools said the lockdown was done out of an abundance of caution.  Students were released on Friday afternoon once the lockdown was lifted.
