List: How much snow fell in towns across the Carolinas

The largest snowfall accumulations didn’t fall in the mountains. Instead, it fell along the beaches of North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — In a reverse from the norm, the coastal areas of both North Carolina and South Carolina saw the highest snowfall accumulations.

Beginning Tuesday and carrying through Wednesday, the Carolina’s greatest snowfall measurement was recorded at the Wright Brothers National Memorial. There in Kill Devil Hills, someone stuck a ruler in the snow along Beach Road and recorded nine inches of snow.

The unique path of the storm system meant areas south and east saw more snow than areas further inland.
