HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Thousands of mourners continue to pay their respects to Pope Francis. He died early Monday morning.

Doctors say a cerebral stroke led to a coma and a collapse of his cardiocirculatory system.

His death is raising global awareness about strokes and risk factors.

Dr. Amy Guzik, Medical Director of the Comprehensive Stroke Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, says Pope Francis had two common risk factors for stroke: type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.
