Jewish Film Festival announces 2025 lineup

WILMINGTON — For 12 years now, the Wilmington Jewish Film Festival has been hosted in town and will continue to be celebrated at the end of the month.

There will be six films showing April 27 through May 6 at Thalian Hall, with receptions including food and beverages included as well.

Passes are $60 to see all the films; they include:

The Boy in the Woods – Sunday, April 27, 3 p.m. – The Boy in the Woods follows the true story of a Jewish boy escaping Nazi persecution after he is separated from his family. He finds refuge with a Christian peasant who hides him until he is afraid for his own family’s life. The boy is sent to live in the woods where he learns to survive alone.

October 8 – Monday, April 28, 7 p.m. – October 8 is a  documentary about the explosion of anti-Semitism on college campuses, in social media and on the streets of America in the aftermath of October 7th.

Bad Shabbos – Tuesday, April 29, 7 p.m. – An engaged interfaith couple are about to have their parents meet for the first time over a Shabbat dinner when an accidental death gets in the way and chaos ensues.  Kyra Sedgwick, David Paymer and Cliff “Method Man” Smith lead a hilarious ensemble cast.

Midas Man – Sunday, May 4, 3 p.m. – Brian Epstein, a visionary who transformed popular music history, is recognized today as the man who signed The Beatles, and in doing so, created the blueprint for music artist management. Brian is often referred to as the 5th Beatle. Midas Man is the untold story of Brian’s life.

Elie Wiesel: Soul on Fire – Monday, May 5, 7 p.m. – Soul on Fire is a documentary that explores the life and legacy of Elie Wiesel, the prominent Holocaust survivor, writer, and human rights advocate who won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work.  The film uses Wiesel’s own words and voice to trace his legacy as a survivor and author, and as a passionate advocate of the need to remember.

The Glory of Life – Tuesday, May 6, 7 p.m. – The Glory of Life, is the story of the young love of one of the most distinctive German authors and a younger woman with an exceptional capacity for love. These two extraordinary people are in a hopeless situation. It is a story about longing and about being in love.
