JCSU football looks to take the next step

The Golden Bulls played their first bowl game in over a decade in 2023.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Johnson C. Smith University coach Maurice Flowers and his football team are hard at work in preseason camp.

The Golden Bulls great led his alma mater to its first bowl game in over a decade last season.

Smith went 7-3 and played in the Florida Beach Bowl.

Now, it’s time to take the next step.

“The next level is building off of last season,” Flowers said. “The first year was the foundational year, going in the right direction. The second year was building on that foundation. This season we just want to keep on improving. That’s our focus every day.”

The Golden Bulls open the season on Sept. 1 against Tuskegee University in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama.
