PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Ahead of an approaching cold front, storm chances will increase through the late afternoon and evening hours. Scattered thunderstorms look likely between 6 PM and 12 AM. A few storms may be severe mainly for a damaging wind threat, heavy rainfall, lightning and the potential for isolated flash flooding.

If you have outdoor plans this evening, please keep an eye on the weather and remember when thunder roars, head indoors.

Lingering showers will be possible on Labor Day although most look to remain dry. The chance for rain is 20%. Skies will be mostly cloudy in the morning with decreasing clouds into the afternoon. We’ll start the day in the upper 60s with highs reaching the low 80s.
