WILMINGTON — A group of Texans showed up to Greenfield Lake Amphitheater last week to make their debut.
Flatland Calvary formed a decade ago, the group comprising lyricist Cleto Cordero, guitarist Reid Dillon, bassist Jonathan Saenz, drummer Jason Albers, fiddle player Wesley Hall, and recent newcomer utility instrumentalist Adam Gallegos.
Originally from Lubbock, the band was founded while its members attended Texas Tech University. It has released five studio albums to date — including 2023’s “Wandering Stars.”
Tom Dorgan of MoonFrog Media was at the GLA show; admittedly, he had never heard of the band before.
“But I am a fan now,” Dorgan said. “I’m not a huge country fan but I did really like their set.”
The band, who crosses folk-rock with country, performed tracks like “Last American Summer” and “The Provider” from their new album.
Austin-based Americana folk-rock act Briscoe, who released its debut album “West of It All,” opened the show.
“What a difference between last night and the night before,” Dorgan said of the crowds between FC’s Wednesday show and The Flaming Lips who played Tuesday. “I like seeing the different genres coming to GLA.”
