WILMINGTON — A two-night sold-out run at Greenfield Amphitheater brought the $10 cowboy to the Port City.

Texas troubadour Charley Crockett has gained popularity on the country scene for bringing a vintage vibe back to the genre, while also infusing Americana, blues, folk, and a hella lot of soul.
“There were a lot of cowboy hats and boots, with some people really decked out in their county finest,” said Tom Dorgan of MoonFrog Media, who captured photos of the night for Port City Daily.
Charley Crockett — self-proclaimed as a descendent of Davy — has toured with artists like Leon Bridges and released 12 albums in less than a decade. Tracking the Billboard charts, 2022’s “The Man from Waco” garnered him nominations for artist of the year and album of the year, as well as song of the year for “I’m Just a Clown.”
Just in April, Crockett dropped “$10 Cowboy,” which peppered much of the setlist from his shows this week, including “America,” “Spade,” “Good at Losing” and “Hard Luck and Circumstances.”
However plenty of covers also were on deck, such as “Juke Box Mama,” by North Carolina’s own Link Wray. Crockett also paid tribute to two of the Highway Men, performing Johnny Cash’s “Crystal Chandeliers and Burgundy” and ending his set with Waylon Jennings’ “Good Hearted Woman,” after performing “The Jamestown Ferry,” originally by Tanya Tucker.
