Lightning struck a balcony, sparking the huge fire that destroyed multiple homes in Beech Mountain.
BEECH MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Multiple Beech Mountain homes were destroyed by an overnight fire that was likely caused by lightning ahead of Sunday’s severe weather.Â
Crews responded to a reported fire at the Snow Tree Villas early Sunday. Witnesses said lightning struck one of the back decks, sparking the fire. The flames quickly spread, causing several homes to catch on fire.Â
Videos and photos sent to WCNC Charlotte showed crews working to contain the flames. The fire was controlled but not before at least two homes and cars were destroyed.Â
One person told WCNC Charlotte the family they were staying with lost their home and two cars to the fire. No injuries have been reported but the fire caused major damage to the community.Â
“Lightning struck the back deck two doors down and then transformers started blowing,” Crystal Rogers said. “Power is out on the mountain, fire trucks had to cut their way through fallen trees.”
WCNC Charlotte has reached out to multiple agencies for more details. This story will be updated once we get that information.Â
