As of 12:45 p.m., flight-tracking website FlightAware reported 224 flights at Charlotte were delayed in addition to 117 cancellations. The majority of delays were either American Airlines or PSA Airlines, which use Charlotte as a hub for East Coast operations.
The same storm system impacted Atlanta’s airport as well, causing over 500 delays.
Monday’s storms are capable of producing damaging winds, golf-ball-sized hail and isolated tornadoes. Weather Impact Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich says the storms will move into the Charlotte metro around 3 p.m. with the trailing edge pushing east of the Queen City by around 8 p.m. The Charlotte area is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 7 p.m.
