In the past, people would plan vacations around scenic destinations and relaxation. But now, more people are booking trips to beat the heat.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It’s no secret this summer has been extremely hot. Now, experts say that heat is changing the way we vacation. 

In the past, people would plan vacations around scenic destinations and relaxation. But now, more people are booking trips to beat the heat. 

Many people are heading to Florida to escape the winter chill.

But as temperatures skyrocket in the northeast this summer, more tourists are headed south in the summer as well, in search of beaches and pools.

Florida in particular is seeing a boom in visitors from the northeast and Texas, according to an NBC News report. In fact, some cities are seeing reservations skyrocket by 45%.

Flight bookings are up as well. 

The founder and CEO of Dollar Flight Club told NBC News they’ve seen a 31% surge from northern cities to Florida.

However, if you do book a summer getaway, expect to pay more.

Many hotels and rental properties are cashing in on the boost and charging extra this year.
