Hot, humid Thursday with a high of 92 in the Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Heat and humidity continue to be challenging.

We’re expecting mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies today with highs in the lower-90s.

The heat index will rise to between 94° and 99° this afternoon, and the UV index is 10 out of 11.  Isolated showers and thunderstorms may affect our western counties this afternoon, and a few may produce gusty winds.  The chance of rain is only 20%.

Overnight, lows will settle to the mid-70s under partly to mostly cloudy skies.

Highs will rise to the mid-90s on Friday with heat indices approaching the triple digits. 

We’ll have a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday afternoon.  

Over the weekend, a cold front is going to move in from the west and cross the Piedmont on Sunday morning. 

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms will be more common as rain chances pop up to 60% on Saturday. 

Sunday, there is a 20% chance of rain, mainly in the morning hours. 

Highs will be in the upper-80s on both days.

As the new work week begins, highs on Monday and Tuesday will remain steadily in the lower-90s. 

The chance of rain is a slim 20% on Monday, but we’ll have scattered showers and thunderstorms both Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Wednesday highs are going to be slightly lower, in the upper-80s.
