High temperatures return this week in the Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s back to school, and we are starting the week with sunny skies and unseasonably warm weather.

High pressure is going to sit and spin over the southern Appalachians for the next several days, and that will produce sunny skies and highs in the upper-80’s today.  The UV index is 9 out of 11.

Tonight, skies remain mostly clear with lows in the mid-60s.

Hot, summery weather settles in for a few days as highs reach the lower-90’s Tuesday and mid-90’s Wednesday and Thursday.

The heat index will approach 100° midweek, so be sure to stay well hydrated during this time.

As for sky conditions, we’ll stay mostly sunny Tuesday and Wednesday, and partly cloudy skies are ahead for Thursday.

We’re going to boost rain chances on Thursday afternoon, as a cold front drops southward.  This front is forecast to graze northeastern NC on Saturday, then retreat northward.

Another cold front (approaching from the west) will head into the Piedmont on Sunday, so rain chances are going to remain between 40% and 60% over the weekend.

Friday through Sunday, highs will return to more seasonable levels, in the mid-80s.
