An area of high pressure is causing a heat dome across the southeast, with temperatures topping out in the lower- to mid-90s in the Piedmont today.
In the Triad, highs will reach the lower-90s with heat indices between 96° and 97°. We will have partly cloudy skies by this afternoon, and a slim, 20% chance of a stray shower.
The UV index is 9 out of 11.
Tonight, skies remain mostly clear with lows near 70°.
Hotter, summery weather sticks around through Thursday as highs reach the mid-90s with heat indices approaching 100°.
As for sky conditions, we’ll be sunny on Wednesday and then scattered clouds develop on Thursday.
Rain chances at that point will start to go up because there is a cold front forecast to clip northeastern NC.
There is a 25% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms Thursday, then the rain chance increases to 80% Thursday night.
Friday’s highs will be back in the upper-80’s with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Another cold front will be working its way across the Piedmont this weekend, and we’ll keep rain chances at 50% on both days. Highs are going to be consistently in the upper-80’s.
