PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) ā€” There is a stationary front to our northwest, extending from West Virginia to Arkansas, that is producing prolonged downpours of rain.Ā This is also a boundary between cool, crisp air to the north and warm, humid air to the south.Ā We are in the latter air mass and will stay unseasonably warm through the weekend.

We’re starting the day with cloudy skies and temperatures hovering near 70Ā°, which is incredibly mild.Ā  Get ready for a very summer-like day, with skies becoming partly cloudy and highs that approach record levels.Ā The record high is 86Ā°, set in 1934, but we may match that high temperature this afternoon.Ā The UV index is 9 out of 11, so please apply sunscreen 30 minutes before heading outdoors to protect yourself from sunburn.

After a period of partly cloudy skies that extends into the early evening, skies will return to cloudy conditions with lows in the upper-60s overnight.

Saturday will be similar to today, with cloudy skies in the morning followed by partly cloudy skies in the afternoon. Also, similar to today, we will have near-record high temperatures.Ā  The standing record is 87Ā° and the forecast high is 86Ā°.

The stationary front to our northwest is finally getting a push to the east by Sunday and Monday.Ā These will be two very wet days across the Piedmont with about 48 hours of showers.Ā  Rainfall totals will be around 1″ for the entire period.Ā Temperatures will remain in the lower-80s Sunday as the front is beginning to cross the state, but we will start to cool to the mid-60s by Monday.Ā Ā

As the front continues to move eastward, chilly, dry air settles into the Piedmont.Ā We will have sunny skies on Tuesday and Wednesday, but highs will only squeak into the mid- to upper-50s, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s!

By Thursday, we will return to near-normal high temperatures, reaching the mid-60s by afternoon.Ā Ā
