Harris, VP pick to launch swing-state tour in Philadelphia

Vice President Harris and her running mate pick will travel to seven key battleground states, starting in Philadelphia, Pa., next week, according to her campaign.

After Philadelphia, the two will travel to western Wisconsin, followed by Detroit, Mich., and Raleigh, N.C. Later in the week, they will travel to Savannah, Ga., Phoenix, Ariz., and Las Vegas, Nev. The campaign said Harris and her future running mate will “crisscross the country together to campaign to the voters who will decide this election.”

Harris said earlier on Tuesday that she has not made a decision on a running mate, yet but she is expected to before next Wednesday.

Her focus on swing states comes as a Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll showed that she has erased former President Trump’s lead in those rates. The poll found that 48 percent of battleground state votes said they back Harris and 47 percent saying they support Trump.

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has said they expect her to select her running mate before Aug. 7. She will officially become the nominee as early as Thursday when Democrats move forward with a virtual roll-call vote.

Democrats Gov. Josh Shapiro (Pa.) and Sen. Mark Kelly (Ariz.) have been floated as potential running mates for Harris, while others like Gov. Tim Walz (Minn.), Gov. Andy Beshear (Ky.) and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg have emerged as top contenders.
