GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro Police Department is asking for the public’s help identifying the homicide victim who was found near Yanceyville Road on Monday afternoon.

A portion of Yanceyville Road from Kalon Drive to Archergate Road was closed Monday after officers responded to a call of a body on the embankment where Yanceyville Road crosses over Lake Townsend.

The body was found by 18-year-old Sean Murphy, who told WFMY News 2 that he discovered the victim while he was out on the lake fishing. He also said police told him they found a shell casing at the scene when they arrived, and last night the Greensboro Police Department confirmed that the victim did have a gunshot wound.

According to police, the victim is a black male who appears to be in his late teens to mid-to-late 20s. He was found wearing a red zip-up hooded sweatshirt, dark-colored sweatpants and slide-style shoes.
