(WGHP) — The governor and other officials will be giving an update on the state’s response to Tropical Storm Debby.
Debby moved through on Thursday, dumping rain and sparking off tornadoes across North Carolina, with at least two people killed in the ensuing damage.
Governor Roy Cooper and SERT officials will speak about the next steps and answer questions about the state’s response.
There was heavy damage across the state, including in Wilson County where one person died after a tornado touched down, also damaging a middle school. In Rockingham County, a woman died after a tree fell on her home.
Randolph County officials are asking any residents to report damage to their homes.
Piedmont Natural Gas has a webpage to help anyone who believes their natural gas equipment may have been damaged in the storm.
“Piedmont is taking the necessary steps to make sure our customers can safely operate their natural gas equipment and appliances in the aftermath of Debby,” said Adam Long, Piedmont Natural Gas chief operations officer. “Flooded natural gas equipment and appliances can pose a hazard, which is why our crews will be inspecting equipment as quickly as it’s safe to do so. The safety of our customers and employees will always be our top priority.”
The press conference will be streamed live on-air and online at 11 a.m.
