Gastonia police release video of vehicle wanted in hit-and-run

The suspect vehicle can be seen hitting a car that crashed into a house, injuring two people.

GASTONIA, N.C. — A new video released by Gastonia Police shows a vehicle wanted in connection with a hit-and-run last week, detectives say.

The crash happened at the intersection of North New Hope Road and Court Drive. Investigators say the driver of a white van with a black roof caused a driver to crash into a house. Both people inside the car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The Gastonia Police Department posted a video on X showing the incident. It shows the van making a left turn at the intersection, clipping the other vehicle, which ran off the road and into the house. The van then continues down the road and out of the camera shot. Detectives released photos of the crash last week before sharing the video of the crash on Tuesday.

WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.
