Litego Marshall had been on the run for nearly two weeks.
BURLINGTON, N.C. — The man who fled during his first-degree murder trial in Burlington earlier this month turned himself into police custody on Thursday, according to the Burlington Police Department.
Litego Marshall was charged with first-degree murder related to an incident on Dec. 20, 2017, when officers found a man from Virginia with a gunshot wound on the 600 block of Ross Street in Burlington. Leonidas Brown eventually died from his injuries.
On Dec. 13, Marshall failed to return to court during his trial. After this, an order for his arrest was issued, and the trial proceeded in his absence. He was convicted Monday and will now face sentencing for his crimes.
Marshall was also charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is currently being held at the Alamance County Detention Center with no bond.
WFMY News 2 spoke to the family of Leonidas Brown, the man Marshall killed in 2017. Family members expressed frustration not only over Marshall’s escape but also the amount of time it took for him to go on trial.
“(It’s) a hurricane of feelings,” said Brown’s cousin Horace Flannigan. “From, you know, fear, there’s a murderous fugitive on the loose. And anger. This should have been simple to me. It shouldn’t have taken this long. It’s been seven years for this trial to even come to fruition.”
