FOUND: 17-year-old escapee accused of murder back in custody

BUTNER, N.C. — UPDATE: Zane C. was apprehended near the intersection of Range Road and Robert’s Chapel Road in Butner. He was returned to secure custody at a juvenile detention center.

Officials are looking for a 17-year-old charged with murder who escaped from C.A. Dillon Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Bunter.

Zane C. escaped at 2:20 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, according to the NC Department of Public Safety (NCDPS).

“Division officials have a high degree of concern for the safety of both the juvenile and the public, due to a prior history of unpredictable behavior,” said the NCDPS in a press release.

Zane C. is accused of killing 71-year-old Jerry Hicks in July 2023. His case was moved to adult court, court documents showed.

Anyone who sees him should report the sightings to local law enforcement.
