IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Retired NASCAR driver Kurt Busch is facing several charges related to an alleged DWI, according to the Iredell Free News.

Busch reportedly will have his driver’s license revoked for 30 days as a result.

Iredell Free News reports that court records state that Busch was clocked going 18 mph over the speed limit by an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy on Tuesday night and “admitted to drinking prior to driving.”

The deputy reported Busch “had red glossy eyes” and “a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.”

A North Carolina State Highway Patrol Trooper also responded to the scene and charged Busch with DWI after he recorded a .17 BAC, the Iredell Free News reports. Busch’s alleged BAC is more than double the legal limit of .08 in North Carolina.

Busch was taken into custody and released early Wednesday morning with a written promise to appear in court on Sept. 19.

Busch released a statement later Wednesday that reads:

“I’m very disappointed in myself and I apologize to my family, my racing family, and to my fans. I will work with the authorities to rectify the situation and work with the county to make it a safer place in the future.”
