CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Federal agents executed multiple search warrants in Cleveland County late Tuesday into Wednesday.Â
The FBI said it assisted the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation as the agencies served warrants at multiple locations. The FBI hasn’t released any further details about the investigation.Â
Multiple police vehicles surrounded a home off Cherryville Road near Spake Farms. Officers from multiple jurisdictions were on the scene, including the SBI. Cleveland County officials told WCNC Charlotte’s Tradesha Woodard they planned on being at the home all night.Â
Neighbors who live nearby said they were alarmed when they noticed a heavy police presence on Tuesday.Â
Residents said they’re still trying to figure out exactly what’s going on. Dozens gathered across the street from the scene Wednesday to wait for information, some of whom stayed out there all day.
“Everybody’s came together as a community. They’ve spoken. They’ve prayed together. There’s been a few out here praying about the situation,” said Kimberly Miller-Walker, who had been out there since the morning. “It’s just tragic for our area, whatever this situation may be at the moment. It is very tragic.”
