PIEDMONT TRIAD N.C. (WGHP) — It’s going to be a warm, muggy day with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Highs today will climb into the upper-80s, but with the humidity factored in, the heat index will be in the mid-90s!

A complex of storms will rumble across the Appalachians today, arriving from the northwest in the late afternoon.

While we aren’t expecting widespread severe weather, these storms may produce gusty winds.

Tonight, an early shower or thunderstorm is possible, then skies will be partly cloudy overnight.  Lows are going to settle to near 70° by morning.

Wednesday and Thursday, the chance of rain remains rather low, at or below 20%.  High temperatures, however, are going to be hot, in the lower- to mid-90s.

On both days, we’re expecting partly cloudy skies.

By Friday, highs will be soundly in the mid-90s with a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms.

A cold front will approach the Carolinas over the weekend, and eventually cross the Piedmont Sunday morning.

Highs will be near 90° on both days with the chance of rain hovering at 50% on Saturday and 30% on Sunday.

The cold front is forecast to fizzle out across the coastal plain, so Monday’s highs are going to make it to the upper-80’s with a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms.
