PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Happy Valentine’s Day! If you’re going out for date night, you’ll want a warm coat as temperatures will be in the low 40s and upper 30s this evening with partly cloudy skies. Clouds roll in overnight leaving us with cloudy skies to start the weekend.
Early Saturday morning, temperatures will be in the low 30s with cloudy skies and the chance for a stray shower. But, more widespread rainfall moves in by mid-morning (~9 AM) and sticks around until mid-afternoon (~3/4 PM). While the majority of the day will be soggy and cold, most look to be dry for Saturday evening and the majority of Saturday night. Temperatures remain in the 30s while the rain hangs around but we’ll reach the low 40s by the evening hours.
Rain makes its return Sunday morning around 7/8 AM, so for those heading to church make sure you have the rain gear with you. Temperatures start off in the low 50s in the morning with highs reaching the low 60s. Rain sticks around through mid-day with a second, brief line of showers in the early afternoon. Once the second line of showers is through, skies will begin to clear and temperatures begin to drop. We’ll end Sunday colder than we started it thanks to a cold front that sparked the rain activity.
Not only are we talking rain on Sunday but it will also be windy. Southwest winds will become northwest winds once the cold front is through and winds will be between 15 and 25 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible. Something to watch on Sunday is the combination of strong winds and very saturated grounds could lead to downed trees and power outages.
The sunshine returns on Monday with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 20s in the morning. Afternoon highs reach the mid-40s.
Partly cloudy skies Tuesday with morning lows in the mid-20s and highs in the upper 40s.
A mix of rain and snow looks possible on Wednesday with morning lows in the upper 20s and highs in the mid-30s. A wintry mix remains possible on Thursday with temperatures in the mid-20s in the morning and highs in the mid-30s.
Cold air arrives on Wednesday alongside a low-pressure system that looks to bring moisture to the Triad by mid-week. While temperatures are trending colder and the moisture is consistent across all the data, there’s still a lot of uncertainty as to whether or not we’ll see wintry weather on Wednesday or Thursday. For now, keep checking back with the FOX8 weather team as we get closer and continue to finetune the forecast.
Sunshine returns on Friday with morning lows in the 10s and afternoon highs in the mid-30s.
