GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Little League Softball World Series opens up Sunday at Stallings Stadium at Elm Street Park.

Teams from all over the world are converging on Greenville. Last year, the team from Pitt County fell in the championship game. Six of those players are returning for this year.

The team has been practicing at the Sara Law Complex in Winterville and the team will scrimmage the next couple of nights.

Wednesday, a police escort will bring the team to the dorms at ECU. “It would mean a lot because I like won the softball World Series for my county and also for my state,” Emma Pilgreen said. “So I’m like, I feel good about it. I think it would be like a real life achievement because last year, me and Brooke, we were on the Southeast team and we got second place in the championship. So, I think if we came back and won four, we’re now North Carolina instead of  Southeast then because we’re playing here in our hometown,” Aurora Edwards said.
