PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) (WSPA/WGHP) — Did you feel it? An earthquake originating in east Tennessee early Saturday morning was felt by residents as far away as Atlanta.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 3.5 magnitude earthquake was reported at around 9:05 a.m. on Saturday south of Knoxville. The earthquake was strong enough to be felt, but not likely to cause much damage.
According to tools provided by USGS, including reports from residents, shaking from the earthquake could be felt for miles away.
Multiple visitors to the USGS website reported feeling shaking in Triad cities such as Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point, Kernersville, Reidsville, Graham, Lexington, Thomasville and Asheboro. Reports have also come in further west in Mount Airy, Mocksville and Elkin.
Reports of shakes have also come in from as far north as the border of Tennessee and Kentucky and as far south as Atlanta and parts of Alabama.
