Lee County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Tuesday who had been served with domestic violence papers the day before on suspicion of starting a fire at his own home.

Deputies on Monday had served Derek John Welsch, 43, of 192 Luck Lane in Sanford with a domestic violence protective order. The same night, authorities responded to a fire at that address and “discovered that … Welsch was responsible for starting the fire,” according to a press release.

The release didn’t indicate whether anyone was home at the time or if anyone was injured.

Deputies located Welsch on Tuesday and charged him with second degree arson, violating a domestic violence protective order, and communicating threats. He was placed in the Lee County Jail without bond.
