Deputies seize 22 pounds of crystal meth after traffic stop

Lee County sheriff’s deputies have arrested a Georgia man after finding 22 pounds of crystal meth during a traffic stop.

According to Sheriff Brian Estes, deputies on Wednesday stopped Jesus Manuel Castaneda-Graterol, 28, of Pendergrass, Ga. in the northbound lane of U.S. 1 near Carbonton Road and found the drugs in his vehicle. Estes said the traffic stop was the “result of an investigation that had been conducted by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security, Sanford Police Department, and the (North Carolina) Department of Public Safety.”

Castaneda-Graterol faces charges of trafficking methamphetamine, two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine, maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Lee County Jail under $500,000 secured bond.
