CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A new report shows a ransomware attack has hit non-profit OneBlood.
Experts say the attack could impact the blood supply going to the hospitals they serve. A majority of the issues are being reported in Florida right now, however, the non-profit does provide blood to hospitals in the Carolinas.
A spokesperson said they are working to mainly use processes and procedures to get blood to where it needs to go.
OneBlood hasn’t released any information on whether there’s been a data leak of personal information, but donor records are required to be retained, per the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
If personal information has been compromised, OneBlood intends to provide a credit monitoring service for donors.
The full scope of the event has yet to be determined, but OneBlood’s senior vice president of corporate communications and public relations, Susan Forbes, said the organization is “working diligently to restore full functionality to our systems as expeditiously as possible.”
Many North and South Carolina hospitals have been impacted due to the cyberattack.
