Students looking to enter the culinary field could receive financial assistance through a new program.

Johnson & Wales University (JWU) announced undergraduate students entering in the fall 2025 semester may be eligible for free tuition due to its new JWU Pledge initiative. The initiative will cover up to 100% tuition coverage for students and families with an annual household income under $80,000 and over 60% for those whose household income is under $200,000.

“At Johnson & Wales, we are creating pathways to make higher education more affordable, accessible, and attainable for students of all means and backgrounds,” Chancellor Mim Runey, LP.D. stated. “This new initiative, combined with our recently launched three-year degree programs, demonstrates the university’s deep commitment to our educational mission of expanding lifelong access to higher education.”

There are two Johnson & Wales located in the states, including in Charlotte, North Carolina, and Providence, Rhode Island.

To qualify for the JWU Pledge program, students must:

  • Reside in North Carolina, Rhode Island, Connecticut, or Massachusetts
  • Have graduated high school with a GPA above 3.2
  • Complete all forms, including the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and all requisite forms and live on campus
  • Be eligible for a Pell Grant (applicable to those seeking 100 percent tuition coverage)

The JWU Pledge uses institutional, federal, and state scholarships and grants to cover qualifying student’s tuition. The coverage does not extend to loans, but families may choose to pursue them along with the JWU pledge to help cover outside costs, such as housing and meal plans.
