WILMINGTON ā The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has approved the Cucalorus Film Festival for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $30,000. This grant will support Cucalorusā 31st annual film festival, being held in downtown Wilmington in late November.Ā
āWe are honored to receive this grant from the National Endowment for the Arts,ā incoming Cucalorus Board Chair Jason Sargis said. āThe Cucalorus Film Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting independent artists and performers. It provides a unique platform for emerging and established filmmakers to showcase their diverse perspectives, and fosters a spirit of collaboration, contributing to the cultural vibrancy of the region. NEA support allows Cucalorus to continue providing a platform for groundbreaking artists and fostering a vibrant creative community.ā
Annually, the festival screens upward of 100 films in a variety of genres, from horror to dramas, comedy to rom-coms, plus plenty of live performances. Cucalorus is accepting submissions from filmmakers here for its 2025 event, scheduled for Nov. 19-23.
āWeāre accepting fabulous features, daring documentaries, sizzling shorts, dance films, animation, experimental films, weirdly personal essays, experiments in cinema, social justice docs, first-time filmmakers, and just about anything you can fit into an MP4,ā Dan Brawley, Cucalorus executive director, said.
