HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Five people were hurt in a crash on North Carolina Highway 73 near the Mecklenburg and Lincoln county line on Thursday, officials said.Â
The crash happened around 9:30 a.m. between the McGuire Nuclear Station and Hagers Ferry Road. This is just west of Huntersville and is a popular route for folks who live on the western side of Lake Norman getting to and from Charlotte.Â
Huntersville Fire confirmed that everyone involved in the crash was removed from their vehicles and treated by Medic. The extent of any injuries is unknown at this time.Â
Because of slick, icy conditions, the bridge on North Carolina 73 at the Cowans Ford dam will be closed until further notice. Drivers should avoid this area until road conditions improve and the ice has melted. Chief Meteorologist Brad Panovich said the heaviest snow will move out of the Charlotte area by 1 p.m. with temperatures expected to reach the mid-to-upper 30s.
