Cold front brings chance of storms to Triad on Wednesday

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A cold front, draped across southern Virginia, will provide enough lift later today to fire up some showers and thunderstorms. There is a 30% chance of rain, mainly from the Triad, north. While there isn’t severe weather in the forecast, some storms may produce gusty winds.  Temperatures are going to be warm, with highs in the mid-80s.

Early showers and thunderstorms are expected; then partly cloudy skies take over after midnight. Lows will be mild, in the mid-60s.

Highs stay well above normal for the rest of the work week, reaching the mid-80s on Thursday and Friday.  We are expecting partly sunny skies both days, with isolated (20%) showers possible by Friday afternoon.

A cold front is going to slowly slide across the state this weekend. The timing of rain with this frontal passage is trending later across most of our models. The best chance of rain (50%) is going to be Saturday, and likely toward afternoon and evening. For now, it’s looking like there may be some lingering showers around Sunday morning, but by afternoon, drier conditions take over.  Highs on Saturday will be in the upper-70s, then highs will drop to the lower-70s on Sunday.

Temperatures stay delightful as the new work week begins, in the mid-70s! While there will be a slim, 30% chance of thunderstorms on Monday, sky conditions are expected to stay partly cloudy through the beginning of the week.
